THE WRITER

My name is Erika, I’m 26, a writer and Iowa proud. I’m currently living in Los Angeles, trying to figure out what I want am going to do with my life. I hate bad tippers, rude individuals, conservative values and sentimentality. I waste too much time online, and I love television more than most of my friends. The same could be said about my dog, family, music collection and a good bottle of vodka. Just kidding about the vodka–I would obviously want my friends around while drinking it. If not to share, than at least to make sure I don’t die of alcohol poisoning. It’s important to note that I have an unnatural love for Julius Caesar and a soft spot for 90s rock. My ideal future would include a chance on Cash Cab and being a successful essayist who happens to have multiple books of poetry published. At least have something published. Anything, really.

Screw it, just put me on Cash Cab, let me hang out with Ben Bailey, win $800 and I’ll be happy.

I guess I should mention, if it isn’t already obvious, that I’m extremely goal oriented.

As for the other stuff… if there is anything to know about me– that I would actually share and cannot yet be learned from Hum a little, Mr. Bones— it can be found elsewhere on the internet. For starters, check out my tumblr, as it is updated more frequently and is a good companion (companion, not replacement) to this blog. If you’re a fan of the beauty portion of this blog, make sure you subscribe to my youtube to see the latest review, tutorial and haul videos. For more of my whining and to see photos of the most adorable dog taken by my blackberry, follow me on twitter. To catch up on the tunes I’m digging, add me on last.fm, and, as I’m aware it’s 2010, feel free to stalk me (though I don’t know why you’d want to) on facebook. I don’t technically add people I don’t know, but I also don’t feel the need to limit who views what. Lets face it, I have a blog about my life, so what would be the point?

For any questions, concerns or general comments you’d like to share with me directly, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at handkerchiefsandwich@gmail.com.

THE BLOG

Hum a little, Mr. Bones was launched in March 2010 as an outlet for a Midwest girl living out her 20s in Los Angeles.

As with most things in life, I keep myself at the forefront of each post. I talk of my belongings,  my friends, my not-so-successful relationships and the dim light at the end of tunnel leading to my future. But beyond my vanity, each entry also touches on one or more of the following in some way: music, literature, fashion, beauty, movies, television and celebrities. Lengthy commentary and tongue-and-cheek advice are provided, as well as (mostly) unbiased criticism and, when the mood strikes me, praise is even rewarded.

Named after an excerpt from “Dream Song 76: Henry’s Confession” by late poet John Berryman*, this platter of a blog is intended to give readers a glimpse into the life of someone else in a way that differs from the hundreds of other blogs on their google reader. Who knows if I’ll succeed in the quest of telling my story by way of pop culture analogies, as all Angelenos aspire to do, but I appreciate you, my lovely readers, following along as I try.

    This was high-larious!
Can’t wait to read your ramblings!
Since I have an unhealthy addiction to blogs in general. Especially when I should be working. 🙂
